Wynand van Niekerk as Downtown Sketcher captures city corners through vibrant sketches using fine liners, acrylic, and alcohol-based markers, bringing urban landscapes to life in Canada. His work inspires others to see beauty in their surroundings.

The sketch by Downtown Sketcher captures the East of Grafton restaurant, which was a significant part of Halifax's dining scene. The restaurant was owned by RCR Hospitality Group and was known for its fantastic food and ambiance. Unfortunately, it has closed down, making the sketch a valuable memento for those who have fond memories of dining or celebrating special occasions there.

The history of the East of Grafton restaurant is intertwined with the RCR Hospitality Group, which also owned other well-known establishments in Halifax, such as Shuck Seafood and Raw Bar, Waterfront Warehouse, The Arms Public House, Agricola Street Brasserie, Pazzo Risorante, CUT Steakhouse, and The Cable Wharf. The restaurant was a popular dining destination, known for its unique atmosphere and the kind of food it served.

  • For my original work I use Copic, and Winsor and Newton alcohol-based ink markers.
  • Prints are signed by the artist.

PACKAGING
Prints: All prints are packaged with love, sealed in an eco-friendly, compostable cello sleeve made of plant fibers with thick backing cardboard and mailed in a non-bend envelope to ensure the print remains in perfect condition.
Greeting Cards: All cards are blank inside and a kraft envelope is included. All greeting cards are packed in a clear cellophane bag. 

ECO EFFORTS

  • It's very important to us to keep being as eco-friendly as possible.
  • PLA compostable sleeves and recycled postcards.
  • We welcome and encourage any suggestions you might have.
