Wynand van Niekerk as Downtown Sketcher captures city corners through vibrant sketches using fine liners, acrylic, and alcohol-based markers, bringing urban landscapes to life in Canada. His work inspires others to see beauty in their surroundings.

The Halifax Central Library, depicted in a sketch by Downtown Sketcher, is a modern architectural marvel designed by Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects.

The library is a vital community space, offering a wide range of books, including a collection of Atlantic Canadian books from independent local publishers. It serves as a hub for various events and is a significant cultural and educational center for the community. The sketch beautifully captures the contemporary design of the library, reflecting its importance as a vibrant and modern landmark in Halifax.

The library, located on Spring Garden Road in Halifax, Nova Scotia was completed in late 2014 after the transfer of materials from the former library across the street, which closed on 30 August. It opened to the public on Saturday, 13 December 2014, with an estimated 12,000 visitors enjoying a day of performances and festivities. The first six weeks of operation saw 272,000 visitors, who collectively checked out over 167,700 items.

PAPER & DESCRIPTION

  • Print and cards are of my original handmade marker sketches.
  • For my original work I use Copic, and Winsor and Newton alcohol-based ink markers.
  • Prints are signed by the artist.

PACKAGING
Prints: All prints are packaged with love, sealed in an eco-friendly, compostable cello sleeve made of plant fibers with thick backing cardboard and mailed in a non-bend envelope to ensure the print remains in perfect condition.
Greeting Cards: All cards are blank inside and a kraft envelope is included. All greeting cards are packed in a clear cellophane bag. 

ECO EFFORTS

  • It's very important to us to keep being as eco-friendly as possible.
  • PLA compostable sleeves and recycled postcards.
  • We welcome and encourage any suggestions you might have.
